Achiever: Got back with my ex a month ago

Nana: Wow...... That's fantastic

Achiever: Yea

Nana: So what's your best food?

Achiever: Beans, fried egg, apple and ice cream in no specific order

Nana: That's a lot o
Achiever: I love food

Timzzy: Beans!!! First time a lady is saying her best food is beans

Nana: I love beans too anyways

Achiever: Perfect

Timzzy: Moving to the next question

Timzzy: Can we know your hobbies....

Achiever: Sewing, writing, talking, visiting new places, reading novels...

Nana: OK. What's your best moment so far on Oau campus?

Achiever: Hmmm... Best...
That's kinda hard to decide

Nana: Really?

Timzzy: So, does that means you Don’t have any special moment in Ogba Femi yet???

Achiever: Yea, you can say that

Achiever: Everyday is a moment of its own

Timzzy: Uhuunm

Nana: Okay. What's your most embarrassing moment here?

Achiever: That's easy!

Nana: Oya

Achiever: The day my sandal cut on my way to another class and i had to walk bare footed

Achiever: I did ogboju anyways

Timzzy: Can explain what you mean by DAT ma'am

Nana: Waawu. That can be embarrassing ooooo. I've been in there before

Achiever: Huh.... In the class right?

Nana: Class and department

Achiever: Stephen, Gbenga, Dammy, Anita, Ronke, Ay., Yemisi, to mention a few

Nana: Cool

Timzzy: Did you mind telling us your crush in the department/Class of Achiever?

Achiever: Crush...
*NONE*

Nana: Hmmmmmmmmm

Nana: what do you think our class/department should work on?

Timzzy: You should answer that separately....

Achiever: The department needs to work on sensitizing the students with the benefits an
Opportunities opened to sociology graduates. That will go a long way...

Timzzy: And as for the class of Achiever……

Timzzy: Would be relayed to the executive

Achiever: The class, we need to be united and appreciate our diversity. Difference is power!

Nana: Deep

Nana: I hope achievers are noting this

Timzzy: And I think we are already working on that….

Achiever: Yes we are.

Timzzy: OK ma

Timzzy: You are in the SRC of the department right

Achiever: Yes i am

Timzzy: What is the motive behind you been a member of the house

Achiever: After observing the ruckus of the last administration, there was no way I'd stand on the sideline and keep observing again. For the department to be progressive, we need intelligent minds we'd discuss salient matters and not waste time on frivolous fights.
That's where i come in

Timzzy: Wow

Nana: Hmmmmmmmmm. I respect this

Timzzy: So we still have some set of people in the department that wants the department to be progressive

Achiever: Thank you

Nana: So with all been said, what's you take on the clash between executive/ legislative arm of the department

Timzzy: Which occur in every administration's in the faculty of Social Science, even at the level of the student Union.....?

Achiever: A house divided against itself cannot stand. It's not just a biblical rule but also an organization rule.

Nana: Yea

Achiever: Until both arms start working with each other instead of against each other, nothing's gonna change

Nana: Yes ke

Nana: Where do you see yourself in 5yesrs time?

Achiever: With my master in mental health sociology and i should be married and pregnant with my first child.

Nana: You amaze me o

Timzzy: Moving on to the last segment we are almost through
Achiever: Okay...

Timzzy: Who is your role model ma'am

Achiever: Pastor Mrs Funke Adejumo

Nana: And please drop your social media handles here ma'am

Achiever: Twitter and Instagram: omolaraduke

Nana: Ok

Nana: Shout out to one achiever?

Achiever: @ Gbenga Class rep dear.
You've been an amazing friend in a very short while. Thank you for being my pillar of strength and
Encouragement. I cherish you

Timzzy: Audience, if we have any questions for our guest

Timzzy: Let start asking now????

Timzzy: It audience Time

Achiever: Audience talk o

Timzzy: We would only permit 2 questions because of our time....
Keep sending in your questions guys!!!!!

Precious: Alright emm @ Oluwatosin Ajewumi what has been your motivation so far apart from God (obviously) and during times you're down how do you react to it?
@Timzzy

Achiever: I love this!
My journal helps. I keep one to show me how far I've come and how far i have to go.
Then awesome friends too.

Blessing PLO: Miss Omolara Aduke. What move have you made towards this as a member of the class of achievers and how do you think we can achieve that

Achiever: Meet more people in the class and keep an open mind when I'm meeting one. I've come to realize that no matte how much i might think i know, there is always someone who knows something I don't. Knowing that keeps me humble enough to appreciate the other person. It will help if we can all do likewise

Nana: What's your drive in life?
#T.Fash

Achiever: Excellence. Not blind competition. I have to be better than the lady I was yesterday. Be the best of me. That's all.

Barakat: what have you been doing so far to make this administration better than the last administration???

Barakat: What do you think can be done to make the legislative arm and executive arm whole

Barakat: I wish all members of the class can learn something from you

Achiever: Rome was not built in a day. It takes patience and logical reasoning

Barakat: It's good ma'am,keep it up

Blessing PLO: Mr.Timzzy. She gave a point on how the department as a whole will move forward and all you could say is to relay her speech to the executives. Are you telling us that the executives are the ones to actually work on that Sir?

Timzzy: No we actually do it in groups.
In which is part of what we are doing already...

Timzzy: I think all questions has been answered.

Achiever: Hmmm... This wasn't to tackle executives ma and sir.

Blessing PLO: OK ooo. I rest my case

Nana: On this note, we have come to the end of this wonderful session of timeout with an achiever. We really appreciate your time and cooperation.

Timzzy: Miss Omolara Aduke what is your say on the program "Time-out with a gallant achiever"

Nana: Hon Oluwatosin Ajewumi thanks for honoring our call.

Achiever: Thanks for the audience, everyone. It was an honour. Hon. Nana and Timzzy, you guys are the best. Thank you for having me.

Nana: See you guys next week Tuesday with an amazing

achiever. Thanks and nice night y'all

Barakat: Or have we forgotten that the executives are just representatives and the members of the department make the association

Nana: Noted ma'am

Timzzy: On this note, we are bringing the program to an end.

Timzzy: I remain my humble self Timilehin Ogundipe

Achiever: Have a pleasant night everyone

Nana: We love you

Insurers stepping up recapitalization
Insurers stepping up recapitalization

By Rosemary Onuoha

THERE are indications that insurance firms are pre-empting a speculated plan by Nigerian Insurance Commission, NAICOM, to raise the industry minimum capital base.

To this end, shareholders of Wapic Insurance Plc have approved the company’s plan to raise additional capital in the sum of N10 billion.

The capital raise would be by way of rights issue, public offering, book building process or other methods or a combination of methods by issuance of ordinary shares, preference shares, convertible loans stocks, medium term notes, bonds or other securities in such tranches, series, or proportions, as the directors may deem fit.

The offers would be at such coupon or interest rates, within such maturity periods and on such terms and conditions as may be determined by the directors. The shareholders at the company’s 58th Annual General Meeting in Lagos last week, expressed their readiness for the anticipated increase in capital.

This came on the back of their appraisal of the company’s ongoing transformation initiative, which they adjudged to be highly successful and encouraging.

The company’s Chairman, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, said “The company is approaching its shareholders at this time to seek approval to raise additional capital as a proactive step towards getting the company ready and set for a much-anticipated regulatory increase in the minimum capital of insurance companies.”

Morgan Stanley raises Nigeria’s weighting, standalone decision still ahead
Morgan Stanley raises Nigeria’s weighting, standalone decision still ahead

By Peter Egwuatu

FOLLOWING the recent rebalancing of the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) Frontier Index, Nigeria’s weighting in the index increased to 7.9 per cent  from 6.5 per cent.

In this development, analysts from Cardinal Stone Research, a Lagos based investment house, yesterday, said that it has reviewed the details of recent announcement by the MSCI ahead of the planned announcement (on June 20) of a reclassification (or not) of Nigeria to ‘Standalone’ status.

The increase in the weighting followed the move of Pakistan from the Frontier Markets Index to the Emerging Markets Index.

There are 16 Nigerian stocks in the index and the new weightings are shown as follows: Nigerian Breweries 1.76 per cent; Guaranty Trust Bank 1.45 per cent;  Zenith Bank 0.86 per cent, NESTLE 0.80 per cent; Dangote Cement  0.60 per cent; UBA  0.40 per cent: Access Bank  0.33 per cent;  Stanbic IBTC 0.32 per cent;  FirstBank Nigeria  Holding  0.27 per cent; Seplat 0.24 per cent. Others are: Guinness Nigeria  Plc 0.22 per cent, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, ETI 0.22 per cent, WAPCO 0.21 per cent, Unilever Nigeria  0.20 per cent, PZ Nigeria  0.06 per cent, Forte Oil  0.05 per cent, and Total Nigeria 7.90 per cent.

According to Cardinal Stone Research, “a total number of 14 funds worth $969 million currently track the MSCI Frontier Index according to data from Bloomberg. We think that following the events of the past one to two years, most of these funds sold off Nigerian equities and many are still underweight Nigeria. Decision on reclassification still ahead, but we expect a positive outcome – Nigeria is currently under review for a potential reclassification as part of the MSCI 2017 Annual Market Classification Review.”

It should be noted that the decision to review Nigeria’s status to “Standalone”, from the Frontier Markets Index, came on the heels of the liquidity issues that plagued the country’s foreign exchange (FX) market.

According to Morgan Stanley, the introduction of restrictions on foreign currency trading in the first half of 2015 as well as the huge scarcity of the green back resulted in a deterioration of market accessibility, and thus consultations with market participants would be held until a decision is taken and announced by June 2017.

However, following the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) consistent supply of FX to the market, liquidity has improved significantly across the market’s major segments – the interbank, the newly introduced investors/exporters FX (NAFEX) window and the parallel market.

US stocks fall ahead of British vote
US stocks fall ahead of British vote

Wall Street stocks retreated Tuesday amid investor caution ahead of this week’s British general election and congressional testimony from fired former FBI chief James Comey.

Analysts said the trend in the US market was part of a pullback in most global bourses because of the potential impact of the those events, both of which happen Thursday.

“The market might be a little on edge” ahead of Thursday, said Bill Lynch, director of investment at Hinsdale Associates, who added that there was little significant economic data for the market to focus on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.2 percent to close at 21,136.23.

The broad-based S&P 500 shed 0.3 percent to end the session at 2,429.33, and the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index also fell 0.3 percent to finish at 6,275.06.

Among blue-chip companies, Boeing, McDonald’s, Nike and Wal-Mart Stores lost one percent or more. But oil producers ExxonMobil and Chevron gained 1.4 percent and 1.0 percent, respectively, as oil prices advanced.

Gold producers Freeport-McMoRan and Barrick Gold jumped 3.8 percent and 5.3 percent as gold prices rose.

Macy’s sank 8.2 percent after executives warned at an investor day of lower profit margins in the current quarter and year. Other retailers also were pulled lower, including Target, which lost 1.9 percent and Nordstrom, which tumbled 3.6 percent.

Naira Watch: It’s now N363/$1
Naira Watch: It’s now N363/$1

By Babajide Komolafe
The Naira,  Tuesday, appreciated to N363 per dollar in the parallel market due to a combination of weak demand and increased dollar supply.

Vanguard survey revealed that the parallel market exchange rate dropped to N363 per dollar from N371 per dollar on Monday, indicating N8 appreciation for the Naira.

Confirming this development, President, Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON), Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, said it was due to increased confidence in the foreign exchange market due to consistent dollar injection by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“Most of the huge demand for dollars and spike in the rate were fuelled by speculation and hoarding. The sustained dollar injection by CBN has eliminated these types of demand, hence low level of demand and appreciation of the Naira,” he said.

On Monday the CBN injected $190 million dollars into the interbank market. This comprised $100 million for wholesale interventions, $50 million for SMEs for forex window, and $40 million for Business/Personal Travel Allowances, tuition and medical fees, among others.

Also the Senate on Tuesday mandated its Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions to hold roundtable with Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) and other stakeholders over high interest rate.

It directed the committee to meet with experts in the finance industry to find immediate and sustainable solutions that would usher in a new interest rate regime that supported enterprise development in the country.

The decision followed a motion by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Sen. Rafiu Ibrahim, at plenary.

Ibrahim said that it was disturbing that in spite of all the negative economic indices in the country, banks had continued to declare huge earnings and profits.

“The current regime of high interest rate continues to place a major burden on business investments and household consumption spending in Nigeria, thereby negatively impacting on the survival of Nigerian businesses.

“This is perpetuating the indicator which shows that only about three per cent of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) starting up, have access to credits from banks.

“This insignificant percentage ironically employs about 88 per cent of our workforce and therefore the backbone of the economy.

“It is disturbing that lending rates to the private sector has hovered between 28 per cent and 30 per cent across board,’’ he said.

In his contribution, the Deputy Leader of the Senate, Sen. Bala Na’Allah, said that there was an urgent need to discuss with all relevant stakeholders on the way forward.

According to him, it is worrisome that in spite of the current economic situation, which has largely affected Nigerians, the interest rate is high.

Na’Allah said “there is a dire need for a stakeholders’ roundtable to address increasing interest rates in Nigeria.

“I wonder why the interest rates are outrageously high, in spite of the fact that the country is yet to get out of the recession.

`The banks are run by a powerful cartel. They do what they like and jerk up interest rates.

“Over the years, we have seen the exchange rates go up, but it is not the same in other economies of the world.

“Nigeria has the most unpredictable economy in the world and we have to be worried about this,’’ he said.

In his remarks, the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, gave credence to the claims by criticising what he described as the twin evil of interest and exchange rates.

He said that it was unreasonable for companies to continue to lay off staff, while declaring huge profits annually.

Saraki, however, assured that the Senate would step in and ensure that the right thing was done.

He said “there has always been the twin evil of exchange rate and interest rates.

“We cannot live in a country
